This week the MLB All Star game took place at Angels’ Stadium right here in sunny Southern California! Leading up to the game there were many activities that took place, one of which was an MLB 5K Run/Walk Benefitting Stand Up to Cancer, one of Dogeared’s newest charity partners.
Stand Up to Cancer is, “a movement created to raise funds to accelerate groundbreaking cancer research that will get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives.” They are doing this by building awareness that we each have a stake in this fight and that together we can end cancer.
Elizabeth (our sales director on the left in the pic above) and I (Malissa, web director, on the right) went out to Angels’ Stadium bright and early this past Sunday to participate in the run/walk. There were over 10,000 in attendance – cancer survivors, family and friends of loved ones lost or fighting cancer, some who are currently battling cancer. We wound through the streets surrounding the stadium and looped the stadium grounds before crossing the finish line and being presented with a medal to commemorate our participation in this inspiring event for a wonderful cause.
One of my favorite parts of the day was signing the wall and reading the inspirational messages others had written about why they were walking and who they were walking for. The cherry on the top is that 100% of the registration fees went towards supporting cancer charities. What a wonderful way to spread positive energy and GIVEbetter!
