Welcome Mimi!

h1 November 20th, 2008

Dogeared is forever growing and we have a new employee that we are anxious for you to meet. Meet Mimi!

Tell us something about yourself!
A list of my favorite things says plenty!

The New Yorker, Chocolate Chip cookies, Neil Finn, documentaries, lots of sleep, Daniel Auteuil, Tulips, M&M’s(plain not peanut), Mad Men, Crossroads Trading, boogie boarding, and San Francisco!

What is your position at Dogeared?
My unofficial title is “Jill of all Trades”. I assist in the design department and sales. I am also involved with the Dogeared Party Planning Committee. We like to celebrate a lot here! Everyday is different and that’s what I love about my position.

What do you like to do outside of work?
I spend my free time with my family or dancing! My daughter is nine years old and she is very creative so we like to do “crafty” projects like making jewelry (although her favorite piece of jewelry is her Dogeared Reminder Make a Wish daughter necklace). If I had the time, I would be in ballet class every day. I’m obsessed!

How has your time been at Dogeared so far?
I feel like I’ve been welcomed into a gigantic new family! There is a lot of love at Dogeared and a common thread that runs through the office is that everyone is conscientious; about each other, their work and surroundings.

Jane - Breast Cancer Awareness Month

h1 October 23rd, 2008

Breast Cancer has hit close to home for the Dogeared Family. Jane, one of our fantastic graphic designers was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in October 2007. “My life was pretty uneventful until that happened, she quips of when she first found out of her diagnosis.

When Jane first discovered a lump she immediately visited her doctor but, because she didn’t have a family history of the disease, it wasn’t considered a red flag. A 2nd opinion and one year later, Jane was diagnosed with breast cancer. Although it would have been quite easy and understandable to let the situation get her down, Jane took matters into her own hands by maintaining her sense of humor. Armed with that sense of humor, she was able to move past the actual disease and battle it as effectively as she could through seeing the lighter side of things which strengthened her hope and determination. “It could take over my body but, I wasn’t going to let it take over my mind,” Jane says.

Through the support of her family, particularly her mother and aunt, and the staff at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Jane was confirmed cancer-free on October 2, 2008, and she intends to keep it that way!

Jane currently mentors other cancer patients by listening to their concerns and providing encouragement.

“It is very important to get yourself checked regularly. Early detection makes a big difference. Listen to your intuition - always get a second opinion if you don’t feel comfortable. Take your health into your own hands.”

Thanks, Jane for sharing your story with the Dogeared community and for providing inspiration to us all!

Breast Cancer Awareness - Caitlin Pomeroy

h1 October 13th, 2008

Here at Dogeared, our goal is to spread good energy through the power of words and symbols in hopes of inspiring all of you, our beloved Dogeared Community. Recently Caitlin Pomeroy shared her amazing story with us. As October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, we thought this was the perfect story at the perfect time and we just had to share it with you and hope it inspires you the way it has inspired us.

Caitlin Pomeroy is pretty fearless. After double knee replacement surgery, at 200 pounds, she was sure that she would never be in shape again. She got together with a personal trainer who helped her to exercise while she was recovering from surgery. One of the ways Cait’s trainer suggested exercising was - kayaking! After a year of hard core training and sheer will power, Caitlin lost 60 pounds and entered and finished her first 100 mile Kayak race!

As things were looking up, Caitlin was faced with yet another challenge, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She did not let that stop her and through her hard work, courage, perseverance and fearless attitude, Cait has just completed her third 100 mile Kayak race and this October celebrates her 2nd year of being cancer-free! This week also happens to be Cait’s birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Cait!

Cait’s wish is to inform us all the importance of early detection and, specifically the importance of mammograms. Please check yourself regularly, speak to your doctors about risk factors and get your mammograms! Let’s beat this and not let it beat us!

Thank you, Cait, for sharing your story with the Dogeared family and community. We appreciate you, and we will always be sending good energy your way.

The Art of Chase

h1 September 30th, 2008

Dogeared has been doing some moving and redecorating at our Dogeared Headquarters! So I asked my favorite local Los Angeles artist Chase, to swing by and see about potentially painting a mural. Chase is an L.A. based street artist whose messages of positivity can be seen throughout Los Angeles and parts of the world. I was so ecstatic to meet him, I had to make sure I got a picture with him!
